roam.io is an app that aims to connect tourists and locals to cities they are located in. It provides suggested routes, landmarks, and gives game-like incentives such as competitive collaboration to engage users with their surorundings and the app to learn more about the area they are in. This was a group project done with my good friend Jackson Palmer.
To create an interactive experience to help engage users with the Downtown Rochester area.
I was in charge of the interface design, user experience, and prototyping, while my partner Jackson was in charge of creating 3D videos and images using Cinema 4D.
We decided on making roam.io into more of an interactive game experience than a navigation app. Our target audience was people looking for a competitive-collaborative experience while also wanting to learn and exercise.
To match our assets, UI elements were made to look more 3-Dimensional. Subtle glows and gradients were used to give an illusion of light and depth.
It was fun to create an entire flow for an app, as well as a little extra. Although everything in this project isn't prototyped, the main flow is fully prototyped. Combining 3D assets with 2D UI elements was quite the challenge, and took a lot of iterating. But eventually, with enough critique and experimentation, I feel like I was able to make the elements fit together. While this UI isn't typically modern, I think it was very informational and fun to design. I'm looking forward to designing more screens and bigger interactive projects in the future.
